These string quartets were written during the height of the global pandemic of the early 21st century.

Shorstein String Quartet No. 1 is a four movement piece. The first movement makes use of repetitive structures. The second movement contains four voice extended harmonies that move in unison. The third movement is reminiscent of older music. The fourth movement brings us to a positive conclusion.

Shorstein String Quartet No. 2 is a much shorter four-movement piece, driven by dissonance and repetitive structures.

Milovac String Quartet No. 1 is a beautifully dark one-movement piece. The score is a combination of traditional notation and graphical score elements - drawings interpreted through improvised playing. The bars have a set time limit and the conductor marks the time while monitoring a clock. This 20-minute timed piece allows for wonderful improvisatory exploration and expression.
